A nature-integrated building serving as a family home, holiday retreat, and experiential space
The triad of nature–human–community has become one of the key questions in contemporary spatial design. One fundamental consideration is how proximity to nature can be transformed into a genuine spatial experience. How can architecture facilitate meaningful communal interaction? And how can a personal living environment be created that responds to the needs for rest and retreat?
The sloping plot in Tihany, with its unparalleled panorama of Lake Balaton, provided an ideal opportunity to address these requirements through complex architectural design. Given the relatively small and irregularly shaped site, integrated planning became essential: the coordinated work of architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture ensured the creation of a unified, generous, and nature-embedded experiential space.
The ground-floor kitchen–dining–living zone is designed around the IN–OUT experience: the openness of the interior spaces toward the facade, together with the outdoor pool and its surroundings, creates a cohesive yet multifaceted spatial experience. All three levels of the building feature equally valuable living spaces, particularly enhanced by the large, sunken atrium on the lower level. The gallery space above the living room extends the spatial experience, and the generous facade glazing offers a strong sense of freedom.
The use of natural materials and restrained tones emphasizes the authentic experience, tranquility, and presence at every scale of the home.
